KS1 SATs (Year 2) overview

Year 2 SATs were made non-statutory in 2023. Many schools still administer for internal use.

KS1 SATs cover maths, reading and writing in Year 2. Maths is split into Paper 1 (arithmetic, ~25 minutes, 25 marks) and Paper 2 (reasoning, ~35 minutes, 35 marks). From 2023 they are non-statutory; many schools continue using them.

Worked examples
Paper 1 (arithmetic): 25 questions, single-step, no calculator.
Paper 2 (reasoning): word problems and applied questions.
Total: 60 marks; teacher-assessed alongside.
