Percentages (FS)

Discount, increase, VAT, interest. Mostly Level 1; Level 2 adds compound and reverse.

FSM percentages are everyday: shopping discounts, restaurant bills with service charge, mortgage interest, savings. Level 2 introduces multi-step (e.g. 30% off then 20% VAT).

Worked examples
20% discount on £180 = £144.
Bill £48 + 12.5% service = £54.
Reverse: sale price £90 was 25% off original. Original = 90 / 0.75 = £120.

Frequently asked questions

Multiplier method?
Best for FSM: 30% off = ×0.70. Cleaner than two-step calculation.
Compound interest formula?
A = P(1 + r/100)t. Level 2 may need to apply this to 2-3 year savings problems.
