Maths Help UK

Functional Skills overview

Post-16 alternative to GCSE. Levels Entry 1 to Level 2. Required for many apprenticeships.

FSM is offered at six levels (Entry 1-3, Level 1, Level 2) by four main exam boards. Level 2 is the headline qualification for apprenticeship requirements (Apprenticeship Standards generally require Level 2 maths and English).

Worked examples
Level 2 ≈ GCSE 4 (standard pass) for apprenticeship purposes.
Adult learners (post-19) commonly take FSM rather than GCSE retake.
Available year-round: most centres offer monthly sittings.
