Fluent conversion in any direction. Calculations across all three notations.
KS3 builds on KS2 conversion: every common fraction has a decimal and percentage equivalent. Calculations cross over: a 12% increase on 250 is 280 = 250 × 1.12.
Worked examples
⅜ = 0.375 = 37.5%. Divide top by bottom for the decimal.
&frac{17}{40} = 0.425 = 42.5%.
0.0625 = &frac{1}{16} = 6.25%.
Frequently asked questions
Recurring decimals as fractions?
0.3333... = ⅓. KS3 uses common ones; full recurring → fraction conversion is GCSE Higher.
Percentage of percentage?
Multiply the multipliers: 10% off then 5% off = 0.90 × 0.95 = 0.855 = 14.5% off in total (NOT 15%).
